Knit vereint Licht und Materialität. Das Licht strömt durch einen einteiligen gestrickten Lycra-Überzug, der auf einen abgeflachten Polymer-Diffusor gespannt ist, wodurch der umgebende Raum in einen sanften 360º Schein gehüllt wird. Dieses Design von Meike Harde für Vibia erweckt durch seine Materialität ein Gefühl der Intimität. Seine gerippte Textur regt den Nutzer dazu an, die Oberfläche zu berühren, um seine Wärme zu spüren und es in der Nähe zu behalten.

Meike Harde geht bei ihrer Arbeit sehr ins Detail und überdenkt textile Anwendungen neu, um visuell leichte und konstruktiv intelligente Entwürfe zu gestalten. Vibia wandte sich an Harde, um eine Leuchtenkollektion zu kreieren, bei der ihr umfangreiches Wissen über Textilien zum Einsatz kommt.

„Anfangs ging es mir nur darum, Lösungen für die Verwendung von Textilien und textilen Techniken in der Beleuchtung zu finden. Dafür musste ich viel recherchieren.“

Welche Art von Textilien konnte sie bei der Beleuchtung einsetzen? Welche Materialien? Wie würde jedes Gewebe mit dem Licht interagieren?

„Ich begann mit verschiedenen Arten von gestrickten oder gewebten Textilien zu experimentieren. Ich beobachtete, wie das Licht hindurch fällt, wenn es Schatten gibt, wenn das Gewebe matt oder glänzend ist.“

Harde begeisterte sich für die sogenannte Plattiertechnik, die meist für Sportbekleidung eingesetzt wird. Mit dieser Technik kann nicht nur flach, sondern auch dreidimensional gestrickt werden.

„Die Tatsache, dass Volumen erschaffen werden konnten, war ideal für dieses Projekt, da so nicht einzelne Teile im Nachhinein zusammengestrickt oder -genäht werden mussten. Ich wollte diese Technik in die Öffentlichkeit bringen und herausfinden, welche Möglichkeiten sie zu bieten hatte.“

Sie war auf der Suche nach einer komplexen Textur, die auch mit dem Licht interagierte. So entschied sie sich mit Rippen zu arbeiten und dem Design zudem verschiedene Farben und Dichtegrade zu verleihen.

„Wo weniger Dichte ist, kommt mehr Licht durch. Auf der Rippe ist die Dichte höher, um mehr Farbe zu zeigen. Das ist nur mit dieser speziellen Technik möglich.“

Als nächster Schritt wurden diverse Formen probiert, auf die der Textilüberzug gespannt werden konnte.

„Ich entschied mich dafür, klassischen oder traditionellen Formen einen zeitgemäßen Look zu verleihen.“
