Cherished Lighting: Crafting Atmospheres That Foster Connection and Comfort

The ever-changing cycle of light and dark renders the spaces we inhabit throughout the day. Every moment is somehow unique, unrepeated, and the light we choose accompanies us through the experience of these spaces.

We come to rely on the light, these lamps that illuminate our lives, whether it be when working, socialising or relaxing. These lamps, shaping atmospheres with light become our trusted friends and companions.

With its long and slender proportions and substantial weight the Africa lamp is both an intriguing object and a chameleon-like light source. It can be self-effacing and efficient, lighting work surfaces unobtrusively.

Or it can be eye-catching and dramatic bringing a surface or setting to life. Designed by Francisco Gomez Paz, Africa has an almost anthropomorphic air, a downward gaze that evokes concentration and reflection. Its materiality is expressed by the lacquered matte finish that invites the touch, a lamp that you’ll want to bring with you as you move through space.

Sometimes the objects around us come with a legacy, an in-built memory that is unlocked through use and contemplation. Diego Fortunato was inspired by billiards and 19th Century gentlemen’s clubs in the design of this portable (or fixed) tabletop lamp.

There is nothing superfluous about this essential lamp, each element performs its functional effectively; from the circular diffuser to the vertical steel stem that anchors Mayfair to its setting or acts as a handle for the portable version. This collection has a unique quality, the ability to elevate a counter, a shelf or a table into a place where things can happen.

The Knit floor lamp typology comes in two strikingly different versions, the standard lamp that stands aloof like a sentinel on guard, or a floor hugging iteration that wraps the ground with a luminous embrace. Designed by Meike Harde Knit floor combines the familiarity of a knitted pullover with cutting-edge textile technology, the result is a hybrid of soft furnishings and industrial design.

Rather like the relationship we develop with a favourite article of clothing Knit projects warmth, a protective glow that generates a sensation of wellbeing. The slightly flattened globes suggest luminous volumes motionless in space, there to reassure us.

With a subtle and poetic design, Musa houses a delicate opaline glass light source in a bowl-shaped dish. The Musa table lamp takes its place alongside other decorative objects that go beyond their practical function.

Note Design Studio created the innovative lamp as a talisman, a light to be cherished, to be kept close. One version sits horizontally with its pearl of light reflected by the aluminium shell, while the other vertical version balances the light within its bottom curves. The portable version is easily moved around utilising Led technology combined with a marked craft sensibility.

The Pin floor and table lamps designed by Ichiro Iwasaki embody the qualities of a trusted and reliable friend.

The tiny shade combined with the elongated stem functions intuitively, easily moved where it’s needed, simply adjusted by turning the metal pin to project direct or indirect light as desired.

The floor version is dignified and unobtrusive, only coming to life when called upon. The table version is reassuring and efficient, its geometry and rigorous logic has a calming effect that belies its powerful potential to illuminate work or leisure, as required.
