Lighting as a companion: designing the rhythm of the day outdoors

There is a special poetry in light when it shapes itself against the dark canvas of outdoor settings. The night, or even the softened light at the beginning or end of the day, offers a golden opportunity to shape bespoke atmospheres through the subtle touches provided by Vibia’s outdoor luminaires. Sebastian Herkner’s design nods to classic references and shapes from a contemporary vision with its refined ribbed glass diffuser, paired (or standing alone) on an aluminium post available in two heights.

Functionally, both versions sit somewhere between a bollard and a streetlamp yet, far from blending into the greenery, they stand tall with understated elegance, proudly showcasing their sophisticated presence.

As night falls and darkness begins to settle in, Martín Azúa’s Dots, in their Outdoor version, appear like constellations, tracing the entrance to the home. From the ground, they cast a soft halo that edges the path and subtly defines the garden. The wall lights, meanwhile, frame the entrance with intention, casting directional beams that highlight the texture of the stone façade. Together, these lighting elements complement each other to create a welcoming transition space.

Guests arriving at night will no doubt feel the warm embrace of this tranquil atmosphere, where indoors and outdoors merge beneath the soft glow of these small luminaires.

By the time the moon rises on the horizon, the day’s splashes in the pool are already a memory. Around the pool, the scene is set for moments shared with family or friends under the glow of Out floor lamps. True to their name, these lights bring the intimacy of indoor lighting into the open air.

In dialogue with the Out luminaires, the Brisa garden lights appear like a playful nod, their charming bluebell-shaped form marking the edge of the decking while casting their beam gently towards the ground. This design by Lievore Altherr Molina, available in Oxide and Khaki aluminium, is intended to blend naturally into the garden’s greenery.

Every moment and every space deserves its own lighting, even outdoors. These touches of light invite us to extend the day beyond interior walls. Subtle glows that envelop moments of calm or social connection, blending functionality with the deliberate design of open-air atmospheres.
