A material with infinite possibilities, both technical and artistic, from which the architect and designer who is based in London, constructs a collection of hanging lamps of different dimensions.Three dimensional, dynamic and lightweight pieces made from a delicate materiality and imposing dimensions, where form, texture and light come together, and which we invite its creator to imagine as … “…a place, it would be a skyspace by James Turrell”, points out Yamac, highlighting how these skyspaces, often located in the landscape, are works of experiential art constructed from space and light. “Magical places like the Color Inside piece in Texas, that recall the massing of the collection and the lightness and spaciousness of the tightened forms.” © Cam © Fotografías con Limón If it were a feeling, Array would be intimacy, thanks to its use of threads that seem familiar and tactile, and a lighting that feels like a warm embrace. A wrap-around effect that combines a soft downward illumination with a subtle upwards glow generated by the hidden light source within the lower ring of the lamp, that provides an attractive chromatic gradation. The staircase of the Hayward Gallery, where the Korean artist Do Ho Suh uses a fine polyester fabric to recreate the staircase from his New York apartment, would be the object that reincarnates the lamp “for its translucent and gossamer character that allows the work to have a large presence without being overwhelming and with layers of solids and voids that invite the mind to fill in the empty spaces and complete the image.” © Do Ho Suh “Multiculturalism” responds Yamac when asked about what culture the collection would be. A term that makes reference to the diversity and compatibility of people or objects where everyone and everything has its own space and collectively adds to the whole, that the collection expresses a balanced compatibility between thread, aluminium, brass and polycarbonate. Transformed into a plant Array would be a dandelion, “because of the way they change from something small and compact when closed, into something larger and more spacious when open.” This dynamic and changing spirit is applied to a lamp where the threads look as if they are vibrating when light passes through. © Bianca Fazacas Yumac’s collection also has a playful side, imagined as a spinning top that rotates around its centre of gravity to create a gyroscopic effect that is evident in Array, where the mesh of threads adds a light-hearted touch and a characteristic illusion of movement. © Ash from Modern Afflatus Discover Array Share on Facebook Twitter Linkedin Pinterest Pinterest You may also like...
