28 variations on Mayfair

Zodiac Lighting celebrates its 28 years

The Mayfair lamp, designed by Diego Fortunato for Vibia has a worldwide appeal that crosses borders and cultures. The instant classic design inspired by the billiards lamps of the 19th Century is defined by its elegance and contemporary interpretation of timeless lounge lighting based on LED technology. Mayfair was recently selected by the Hong Kong based Zodiac Lighting company as a medium for celebrating its 28th anniversary.

The company commissioned 28 local designers to come up with a different variation on the table top version of the lamp that would later be exhibited as part of the celebrations for their anniversary and later be collected in a publication marking the initiative.

Two exhibitions were organised, one at the company headquarters in Chai Wan and the other at the famous Comix House Arts Centre in Hong Kong, Whai Chai a Grade II listed pre-war collection of industrial buildings now dedicated to animation and the comics industry.

Selected designers include; Jessica Fong’s ‘Axial’ which adds a conical timber lattice to the underside of the shade;
