Coffee & Play: Algorithm Illuminates a Contemporary Gaming Room

Located in Seville, Spain, Coffee & Play is an innovative take on the traditional gaming parlor. The cutting-edge, contemporary space offers a wide variety of activities, from high-tech video games and gambling machines to televised sporting events. Coffee drinks and specialty cocktails enhance the lively atmosphere.

To protect their light-sensitive video monitors and screens, gaming rooms typically limit the amount of natural light. That made the choice of fixtures even more important, and Coffee & Play’s architect opted for Vibia’s Algorithm, designed by Toan Nguyen.

 

 

Anchored to the ceiling from a tubular steel lattice, Algorithm features a field of blown-glass LEDs suspended at varying heights. The customizable light is normally arranged in a static configuration, but at Coffee & Play the lamp is motorized, creating a kinetic sculptural installation that can be programmed in a range of compositions.

 

 

Resemblinga constellation of illuminated drops that appear to float in space above the gaming consoles, Algorithm’s whimsical form reinforces the establishment’s playful environment while providing pioneering lighting technology.
