We polled a group of international architects and designers to see what the professionals turn to for inspiration and perspective. Read on for their top picks. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Diego Cacciamani<\/strong>, an architect based in Perugia, Italy, is the founder of A25design Studio<\/a>. From private residences to boutique hotels in Italy, Paris, London, NYC, and San Francisco, Cacciamani\u2019s projects explore the interplay of light and volume. Among his favorite design books are:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Architecture of the Absurd<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>by John Silber, which casts a critical eye on some the most celebrated architects of all time.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Bauhaus to Our House<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>by Tom Wolfe. It explores what Cacciamani calls the \u201closs of quality of life\u201d that resulted from the glass-box architecture of the last 50 years.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Spoken Into the Void<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>by Adolf Loos argues that eliminating ornamentation is the way to create truly modern works, free from unnecessary frills.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Jes\u00fas Diaz Osuna\u00a0<\/strong>studied architecture in Seville, Spain, before beginning his professional career with firms in The Netherlands and Brazil. He later returned to Spain and opened his own architecture and design branding company in Madrid, Febrero Studio, with Mercedes Gonzalez Ballestreros. Osuna\u2019s recommendations include:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Modern Architecture: A Critical History<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>by Kenneth Frampton. This acclaimed volume, says Osuna, is a \u201cclassic for architecture students and fundamental to understand modern architecture.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Dream of Living<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>by Blanca Lleo recounts the \u201cfascinating evolution of the modern home and the important changes it underwent in the 20th<\/sup>century.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Studio KO<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>by Tom Delavan and Julien Guieucelebrates the renowned French architectural firm in a visually compelling journey through the residences and museums it designed over the last decade.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Like her Febrero Studio co-founder Jes\u00fas Diaz Osuna, Mercedes Gonzalez Ballesteros\u00a0<\/strong>graduated from the Seville School of Architecture. After moving to London, she worked on the Norman Foster team that designed Heathrow Airport\u2019s Terminal 2A in addition to several residential projects. She co-founded Febrero Studio<\/a> with Osuna in 2016. Ballesteros\u2019 list of best design books include:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Architecture of Happiness<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>by Alain de Botton. It examines iconic buildings with a fresh and innovative eye, exploring the psychology behind the architecture.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Invisible Cities<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>by Italo Calvino is, says Ballesteros, \u201ca classic work of historical fiction featuring fascinating descriptions of imagined cities. An inspiration for architects and those in other creative disciplines.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Thinking Architecture<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>by Peter Zumthor features personal reflections on his body of work by the controversial, Pritzker Prize-winning architect.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Mariola Arteche<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is an interior designer based in Santiago de Chile. After studying journalism at university she became increasingly interested in art and design and opened a d\u00e9cor shop. She later founded her eponymous interior design business in 2008, with projects ranging from private residences to real estate companies and office buildings. Among her favorite design books are:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n A History of Interior Design<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>by John F. Pile, a richly photographed book that explores the history of interior design up to the present day. \u201cMy bible for everything to do with decoration,\u201d she says. \u201cA book to consult, not to leave on the coffee table.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Liaigre 12 Projects<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>by Christian Liaigre showcases the designer\u2019s work around the world. \u201cIt\u2019s the book for good taste,\u201d explains Artheche. \u201cIt has to be read, studied, and lived.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Founded in 2011 by Selin Semaan and Josh Weiselberg, TBD<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is an award-winning, New York City-based architecture and design firm. Specializing in high-end residential and commercial projects in Manhattan, Long Island, Pennsylvania, and Florida, TBD has been featured in such publications as Dwell<\/em>, the New York Times<\/em>, the Wall Street Journal<\/em>, and Interior Design<\/em>.
