Asia combines Eastern traditions and contemporary design language in a calming light fitting

Its designer, Antoni Arola, was inspired by the composure of the traditional double-pitched roofscapes of Asia and the delicate nature of rice paper in the design of the different components of the Asia collection, with the clear intention of reinterpreting the architecture of the East under a calming and uniform lighting concept.

The light fitting is articulated as a layering of different materials. On the one hand a quartz glass cylinder that houses the LED light source, and on the other a double pitched lacquered glass diffuser that filters the light into a warm halo, even and nuanced. The combination of densities makes the light look as if it’s coming from within, as if it were expanding organically to give form to an object with a delicate and harmonious visual presence.

Asia is conceived for interior spaces and includes three versions: pendant, with an adjustable height in three different lengths; floor lamp, measuring slightly more than one metre in height; and tabletop version, in a choice of single or double shade models, a reinterpretation of the library lamps in a more contemporary design language. These two latter versions include an adjustable diffuser.

In fact, the collection generates a dual lighting effect that allows for the creation of different lighting scenarios depending on the space and the user requirements. It offers both a diffused and immersive light, filtered indirectly through the lacquered glass, combined with a more precise and concentrated directional light, modulated by the diffuser’s angle or suspension height.

For any of these three versions the structure is available in a black, beige and off-white versions, adding a sober framework that enhances the purity of the glass. An elegant and precise contrast that supports the fitting without weighting it down, reinforcing its timeless quality and easy integration within a variety of decorative styles.

Along these same lines, Asia can adapt to any type of project, from residential, to contract, to hospitality, thanks to this luminous duality and it offers a variety of versions and lengths, allowing the interior designer to create bespoke compositions; everything from individual pieces to linear compositions or different height arrangements. Whatever the preference the light can dialogue with its architectural setting and creates a highly customised atmosphere.

That helps explain why the collection features such a wide variety of applications, equally suited as a pendant lamp for a dining table, whether in a residential or restaurant, tracing a clean and warm lighting silhouette that appears to float weightlessly. In addition, the adjustable height means its settings can be adapted, providing a more intimate and focused effect closer to the surface, or more expansive when raised.

The table lamp is perfect for generating a more intimate, relaxing light for nightstands in bedrooms, aiding relaxation, thanks to its nuanced non-invasive illumination, generating a more immersive sensation that invites sleep at the end of a day. This version of the Asia collection is also perfectly suited to work zones, offices or hotel reception areas.
