Nexum: Four Typologies, Multiple Applications

Nexum is a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional chandelier, transformed into an architectural lighting system. Designed by Arik Levy, it replaces the central point of light with a modular grid of interlocking linear profiles. Conductivity becomes a structural principle, light flowing horizontally and vertically, connecting spaces and responding intuitively to the surrounding architecture.

Available in four typologies — Lineal, Rectangular, Square and Volumetric — Nexum adapts to different scales and lighting requirements, expanding and evolving through space without adding visual weight. Maintaining a sense of lightness and clarity, carefully positioned spotlights and calibrated beam angles deliver balanced, glare-free illumination from elevated heights.

Each of Nexum’s four typologies offer a distinct geometry and approach to light, providing solutions for different spatial scales and needs. The ceiling application integrates naturally into the surrounding architecture, delivering balanced downlighting that’s ideal for circulation zones, residential spaces and contract areas. The suspended application enhances spatial depth with the option of combining down- and uplighting.

1. Lineal

Designed for spaces that require a sense of continuity or visual clarity, the Lineal typology is particularly suited to longitudinal spaces. Its graphic silhouette brings a balanced, practical light to kitchen islands, workstations and corridors, creating a gentle rhythm across the space and combining functional demands with a clean, refined aesthetic.

The Downlighting & Uplighting option enhances the sense of brightness by adding an additional layer of light across the ceiling surface. The uplighting effect is available exclusively in the hanging version, not in the ceiling version. Illuminating both upwards and downwards creates a broader, more ambient effect, with fewer points of light needed to achieve a cleaner aesthetic.

H1 = 1 m
Distance from the luminaire to a table or other surface to be illuminated.

H2 = 3 m
Distance from the luminaire to the floor.

2. Rectangular

The Rectangular typology brings a clear sense of structure to a space, framing light within a defined perimeter. Its generous proportions make it ideal for large-scale environments, from conference rooms with large-format tables, to reception areas and open-plan workspaces. Balancing the scale of the space with a discreet presence, it creates a uniform volume of light across broad rectangular surfaces.

The Downlighting & Uplighting version enhances overall luminosity, bringing light to the ceiling plane as well as the surfaces below. This creates a brighter, more cohesive atmosphere, boosting focus and productivity in the workplace.

3. Square

Especially suited to lounges, lobbies and medium-sized meeting rooms, the Square typology brings focus to a specific area without overwhelming the surrounding environment. Its balanced geometry promotes uniform illumination across the space, reducing excessive contrasts for a greater sense of visual comfort and spatial coherence.

In larger lobbies and open spaces, the Downlighting & Uplighting version can improve the overall sense of brightness, reducing the number of light points required and ensuring a well balanced, comfortable environment.

4. Volumetric

The Volumetric typology transforms Nexum into a three-dimensional sculpture, creating a distinctive physical presence while extending its light coverage. Its variety of configurations allows the system to adapt naturally to small-, medium- and large-scale spaces, from intimate settings to expansive architectural environments.

The more compact Pendant Downlighting configuration responds to smaller-scale settings, such as side tables, coffee tables or individual workstations, while the larger Downlighting & Uplighting configurations are more suited to contract applications such as double-height spaces, lobbies, restaurants or showrooms, where broader illumination and greater spatial presence are required.

Nexum provides professionals with an architectural tool for shaping spaces through light. Rather than an additional element, lighting becomes part of the spatial structure – a continuous, harmonious language that expands and adapts with each environment. Its four typologies offer a range of geometries and configurations, adapting to the scale and needs of each project. From focused scenes to expansive architectural environments, Nexum brings together form, proportion and light to create comfortable, cohesive atmospheres.
